Tailoring Your Charleston Night Out
I'm going to break it down based on what you're actually in the mood for. Because your ideal night out depends on whether you're looking to paint the town red or just chill with a craft beer.
Party Night in Charleston
Let’s keep it simple: you want to party!
Start off classy, and then head to Upper King Street later in the night where you'll join a lively crowd of your new best friends.
- Start with happy hour cocktails at The Gin Joint, Thoroughbred Club, or Zero George.
- Head to a rooftop bar for sunset: The Rooftop at The Vendue, The Watch Rooftop, or Stars Rooftop.
- Dinner at lively spots like The Ordinary, Leon's Oyster Shop, or Little Jack's Tavern.
- End the night on Upper King Street.
Happy Hour & Chill in Charleston
This is my kind of night: a relaxed, friendly chat at the bar during happy hour, enjoying some snacks, and getting home before things get too crazy.
My favorite spot has amazing cocktails, a great happy hour menu, and a welcoming bar setup where I always meet new people. Next door, another spot offers a classic cocktail bar vibe, perfect for a quick stop. A hidden gem nearby is worth the effort to find. I've also added a place with some of the best Moscow Mules in town—enough to make you rethink going home early! Finally, I might end the night at a laid-back spot for small plates and wine.
- Prohibition (great cocktails and bar setup)
- Vintage (classic cocktail bar feel)
- Dalila's (hidden gem)
- The Rarebit (fantastic Moscow Mules)
- Baba's on Cannon (chilled spot to end the evening)
It's On the Company Card Night
You're not paying, so let's splurge and impress your clients at some luxurious spots. After a long day, start by meeting your colleagues at a high-end hotel rooftop bar for sunset drinks and fresh air.
- Start at Fiat Luxe at Hotel Bennett or The Citrus Club at The Dewberry.
- Dinner at Husk, FIG, or Halls Chophouse.
- End at stylish cocktail spots: Vintage Lounge, The Belmont, or Felix Cocktails.
Romantic Night Out in Charleston
I asked some female friends for their idea of a truly memorable evening. Here's what they suggested:
Start with a sunset walk through Waterfront Park, enjoying the moment and the company.A short walk away is the Spectator Hotel, perfect for a quiet pre-dinner cocktail or glass of champagne, adding a touch of sophistication.
Then, take an Uber (or maybe a limo) to Chez Nous. This intimate, candlelit French restaurant feels like a slice of France—just book ahead! Finish the night at Bin 152, a cozy spot with an excellent wine selection, perfect for unwinding and ending the evening on a refined note.
- Sunset walk through Waterfront Park
- Pre-dinner cocktail at the Spectator Hotel bar
- Dinner at Chez Nous
- Nightcap at Bin 152
Breweries Of Charleston
As Charleston's popularity has soared, spots like Upper King Street feel more touristy and less local. That's why I prefer spending Saturdays brewery hopping. They're still downtown but just a bit farther out, offering a more local vibe than the city's main bars.
- Munkle Brewing Co.
- Fatty's Beerworks
- Tradesman Brewing Company
- Copper River Brewing Company
- Over The Horizon Brewing
- Edmund's Oast
- Revelry Brewing Co.
Bachelorette Night Out in Charleston
On Friday mornings, Charleston Airport is invaded by bachelorette parties flying in from all over the U.S. Here’s my guide to the best bachelorette night out in Charleston. And yes, I may have had some help writing this guide.
Charleston is hot, and you’re all dressed up, so I’ll keep the walking to a minimum and maximize the party time.
Start the evening with a touch of elegance at a chic hotel spot (ask a local what the nickname of the bar is, be prepared to blush). Then enjoy a lively dinner at a local favorite. Afterward, order fun cocktails, followed by IG worthy rooftop views. End the night with dancing on Upper King Street.
- Start at Camellias in Hotel Bennett
- Dinner at Rue de Jean
- The Cocktail Club
- Rooftop bar at Stars
- End the night at Republic or Prohibition, on Upper King Street
Explore the quieter side of Charleston:
King Street is the epicenter of Charleston nightlife—it's the Main Street, after all. But as someone who lives just two blocks away, I can tell you there’s a quieter, more relaxed world right around the corner. Here’s where I go for my night out in Charleston.
I start out at Fuel, an old converted gas station. It’s nothing fancy—your drink might come in a plastic cup—but they have a great outdoor space.
Next, I wander over to Xiao Bao Biscuit and see Dave. Pull up a seat at the bar, choose some of the best Asian food in the city, and let Dave mix you an amazing cocktail. The Szechuan Stinger is my favorite; it makes my tongue go numb with its Szechuan kick!
Then, I’ll go to see Jeff at Elliottborough Mini Bar. It’s mini, but that’s why I like it—it’s intimate and friendly.
The two streets, Cannon and Spring, are lined with small bars, wine bars, cafes, and restaurants. You can spend the night walking up and down them. They’re much more peaceful than King Street. Be sure to check out my Airbnb on Cannon Street.
- Fuel
- Xiao Bao Biscuit
- Elliottborough Mini Bar
- Wander Cannon and Spring streets
Let's Go to the Ballpark
For a more family-friendly night out in Charleston, catch a game with one of our professional sports teams. Our warm evenings are perfect for watching baseball or soccer, and since our teams are minor league, it won’t cost a fortune.
- Charleston RiverDogs Baseball
- Even if you’re not a baseball fan, a night at a RiverDogs game is a blast. The stadium is downtown, easy to reach, and overlooks the Ashley River. You can enjoy the sunset (which is more exciting than baseball for me!) while the game continues.
- Charleston Battery Soccer
- College of Charleston Basketball
- South Carolina Stingrays Hockey

Our beautiful backyard is more than just an outdoor space—it’s a serene escape that sets us apart from other Airbnbs. Instead of heading to crowded restaurants, make the most of our special backyard retreat.
It's only 3 blocks to Upper King Street so you can join the party there after dinner.

Shem Creek & Sullivan's Island Night Out
Charleston’s coastal charm calls for a laid-back evening by the water & away from downtown:
- Start at Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant for waterfront bars where you can enjoy a beer and watch dolphins. Consider arriving early for a sunset boat tour of Charleston Harbor.
- Experience a Local Vibe: Shem Creek offers a more relaxed atmosphere compared to downtown.
- Head to Sullivan’s Island for beach vibes, just a short drive away. Dress casually and explore the small downtown with several walkable bars.
A Night on Folly Beach
For a true beach experience, head to Folly Beach in the late afternoon. Catch the sunset at a beach bar, then explore the eclectic downtown area.
Downtown Folly Beach has three blocks of bars, offering a laid-back vibe compared to other Charleston beaches. Enjoy a relaxed evening as you party Folly Style
Honorable Mentions
Avondale
Located just 10 minutes from Downtown Charleston in West Ashley, Avondale offers a collection of local restaurants and bars. Spend an evening strolling between them and immerse yourself in the true Charleston experience.
Park Circle
A 20-minute drive from downtown, Park Circle features 5 blocks of shops, bars, and restaurants. This area often hosts concerts and parades, with its St. Patrick’s Day festival being a standout. Nearby breweries make it a great spot for a full day of fun.
Johns Island
As Charleston’s popularity grew, some local chefs moved to Johns Island due to rising costs. Visit spots like The Royal Tern, Minero Mexican, and Wild Olive. For drinks, check out Estuary Brewery or Seanachai Whiskey & Cocktail Bar for a taste of Ireland. It’s a 25-minute drive from downtown and pairs well with a visit to Angel Oak or Rockville.
